Description
Summary: Why put addiction prevention into the hands of volunteers ? Ernst Servais, basic principle (1988) that "Addiction concerns us all" implies that everyone has a responibility. Prevention cannot just be left in the hands of the professionals. It has a place in everyday life. How we relate to each other and give each other help support are the very heart of preventative ressources. In this connection, voluntary work forms an important link between professional competence and the individual citizen. It can also have an identity-strngthening function when the average person can do something for general welfare, health and addiction prevention within the community. in this way, it is the professionals who form the backbone in the sense of empowerment. In order for this to be successful, volunteers are needed who are motivated so that they can take place in a well-structured organisation. the adjective, "voluntary" itself, implies that voluntary commitment can rapidly dissipate in the face of dissatisfaction. The starting point of this report is the fostering of interest, motivation in the sense of volunteer satisfaction and the impact on the quality of their work. With this in mind, the specialized literature was analysed, organisations and volunteers were surveyed, and a workshop was set up under the auspices of a European project, the results of which are presented in detail in this report. Firstly, a brief overview of the project and its background is given. Finally, a summary of the essential aspects regarding the motivation of volunteers and how their voluntary work is organised is given based on the results, so that conclusions for decisive action can be drawn.
